Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride and Dental Health

Don’t let cavities ruin your perfect smile! Prevent caries with daily oral hygiene and dental fluoride – one more key to good oral health. It is naturally occurring mineral found in groundwater. Fluoride helps to prevent bacteria from eroding the enamel and repairs teeth at the microscopic stages of the disease.

What is Fluoride Treatment?

Your teeth will thank you if you try professional fluoride treatment. At Dr. Gallegos Family Dentistry we provide preventive dental therapy that usually takes just a few minutes, but keeps your smile bright and healthy for a long time. Fluoride may be in the form of the solution, foam, gel, and varnish applied with a cotton swab or brush. We usually ask patients not to eat or drink 30 minutes after the treatment to allow the teeth to absorb the fluoride.

Is Fluoride Safe for You?

Recent scientific review of fluoride has shown that this mineral is absolutely safe and effective if it is applied in the professional treatment. However, there is the risk of poisoning, but only in the case, if too much fluoride is ingested accidentally. As long as this medicine is used as directed by your family dentist, this hazard is minimal.

How Often Should You Get a Fluoride Treatment?

Usually, we recommend fluoride treatment every 3, 6, or 12 months depending on the dental peculiarities of every patient. If there is the high risk of developing caries, Dr. Philip M. Gallegos advises taking additional precautions that will minimize this threat.
